Single-take, smartphone footage following a police helicopter flying in circles above my house in Auckland. The image looks low-res and the autofocus struggles at times. The police are using this helicopter as a viewing platform. They look down at my suburb with a high-tech, infra-red camera to help direct police operations on the ground. It’s not uncommon to see or hear this above me in Auckland. The gesture of filming back at the police filming me points to the broader relationship of citizen power vs. state power. Particularly the difference in advancement of technology used by the state or tech company vs. what ordinary people have access to.
